On Friday 17 October, Aberfoyle Park High School was proudly represented at the School Sport SA Beach Volleyball Carnival by 57 students from years 9 to 12, forming a total of nine teams across various age groups. This annual event provided an exciting opportunity for our students to compete against schools from across the region, while demonstrating teamwork, sportsmanship and school pride.

All of our teams played exceptionally well throughout the competition, upholding the values of excellence and respect both on and off the court. A special highlight of the day was one of our year 9/10 girls' teams making it through the minor rounds undefeated, earning a well-deserved spot in the grand final.

The final playoff against Mount Barker was closely contested. With just minutes remaining, Mount Barker led by three points. In a spirited comeback, Aberfoyle Park managed to level the score right on the siren, sending the match into a golden point decider. Despite a valiant effort, our team narrowly missed out on the win, but their performance and determination were outstanding.

Congratulations to all students who participated and thank you for representing Aberfoyle Park High School with such enthusiasm. We look forward to more successes in future sporting events.

Girls 9-a-side AFL Competition

On Monday 15 September, Aberfoyle Park High School proudly took three teams to participate in the Girls 9-a-side AFL competition. We were represented by two teams in the year 7 to 9 division and one team in the year 10 to 12 division.

The weather held off with no rain, although strong winds posed an extra challenge for all teams throughout the day. One of our year 7 to 9 teams entered the 'come and try' rounds, made up of students who were either new to AFL or had limited experience. Despite facing schools with experienced players, this team showed excellent determination, developing their skills with each game and ultimately securing a victory in their final match.

Our year 7 to 9 competitive team encountered some very strong competition, including teams with significant height and skill, as well as having to contend with the challenging wind conditions. The team remained competitive, winning several of their matches, an impressive performance with great marks and strong kicks.

The year 10 to 12 girls team had a standout day, remaining undefeated throughout the entire competition. Their ability to adapt to the wind and manage positions on the field was impressive.

Congratulations to everyone who participated.

SACE Stage 1 outdoor education bushwalks

Our SACE Stage 1 outdoor education classes participated in bushwalking for one of our experiences in the outdoors. This involved menu planning to cook on Trangias, setting up tents, packing rucksacks, navigating and leading the group for different sections of our bushwalks.

One group climbed Mt Remarkable on their first day in beautiful bushwalking conditions and were rewarded with outstanding views. That night we set up camp at Melrose showground.

On day two we hiked through Alligator Gorge, where the creek was flowing and climbed up to the top of the Battery, through the bushfire effected land, to experience amazing views over Spencer Gulf.

On day three we packed up and travelled to Wirrabara Forest experience a different environment and for the group to walk independently.

Our other class needed to modify their bushwalking experience due to severe thunderstorms, hail and flash flooding being forecast for the southern Flinders Ranges the night before leaving on camp.

The students learnt that when having experiences in the outdoors, you need to adapt to weather conditions and plan accordingly.  We modified our experience and walked the Heysen trail from Kings Head towards Waitpinga and return on day one.

Then completed a bushwalking circuit in Deep Creek, camping overnight at Tri campground. Congratulations to the group on their efforts supporting each other, being organised, and contributing to a positive outdoor experience.
