THE ARTS

SEMESTER 2 ROUND UP
With the end of 2025 fast approaching, our Performing and Visual Arts students and staff are busy finalising their creative ventures from the variety of programs we offer in The Arts at St Joseph’s College.
Our VCE Music students performed the pieces they chose for their final exam performancess to a spellbound audience at the Mercy Theatre on Tuesday 27 August. Annabelle Munn and Lucas Tresize were stunning in their individual repertoires, and we wish them both the very best of luck with their Performance Exams.
The annual Performing Arts Showcase on Thursday 23 October saw approximately 100 Dance, Music, and Drama students coming together to create a jam-packed two-hour show. The variety of compositions and skills provided the audience with a wonderful showcase of works created by our students in 2025. Nearly 300 guests were entertained by our Year 7 and 8 Specialist Music students and individual, trio, and band performances by students in Years 9 to 12. A scene from Alice in Wonderland Jr brought a touch of whimsy to the stage. Our Year 9 Dance troupe and highly skilled VCE dancers mesmerised with movements graceful and precise.
Approximately 48 students have completed Year 9 Art in Semester 2. The students have honed their skills in drawing and used these to aid their creative practices. Painting landscapes taught the students about essential composition and colour theory. However, by far their favourite tasks were related to sculpture. Students were introduced to three-dimensional techniques and have made pinch pots, coil pots, and ceramic houses which light up with a tea-light. The lengthy process of using clay, bisque firing, glazing and then firing again to complete the works kept the students (and teachers!) busy for weeks. The amazing sculptural works created by the students are definitely some of the best things I have seen created in Art this year.
Year 9 Visual Communication Design has students thinking about the spaces we live in and the suitability of the environments and products we create. From poster designs to the cross-pollination of products and packaging, students have been introduced to ‘Design Thinking’ and how it can improve the world we live in.
On Thursday 13 November, the St Joseph’s College VCE Visual Arts students will exhibit their final works at the new Arts Mildura space at 106–108 Pine Avenue (Old Hodgson’s Cycles). Art Creative Practice students and Visual Communication Design students will display their final pieces at this professional exhibition. Please come along and see some inspiring Visual Arts pieces.
Well done to all our students! Your enthusiasm and creativity have transformed the college into a vibrant and exciting place to be.
Congratulations to all our Performing and Visual Arts staff, who put in an enormous amount of time and effort in nurturing the St Joseph’s College students in the vast areas of The Arts.

Visual Communication Design students Gabrielle Zaccone and Rhett Lawrence have explored the dynamic worlds of interior design, set design, prop creation, and brand identity. Their meticulously crafted models offer a glimpse into how their concepts could shape real-world environments—from immersive stage sets to sleek commercial spaces.
Media Studies student Annabelle Munn presents Ponticello, a hauntingly beautiful short film that blends music and visual effects in a story centered around a mysterious cello. Her work is a testament to the power of cinematic storytelling and emotional resonance.
These final presentations are more than just projects—they are the culmination of months of research, experimentation, and refinement. Each piece reflects the unique voice and vision of its creator, inviting viewers to engage with the ideas and artistry of the next generation.
Join us at Arts Mildura, 106-108 Pine Avenue from 13 to 15 November to celebrate the achievements of our Media, Visual Communication Design, and Arts Creative Practice students. Whether you are a lover of design, film, or fine art, this exhibition promises inspiration, innovation, and a fresh perspective on contemporary creativity.
Come support our students and be part of their artistic journey—you won’t want to miss it.
