Catholic Identity
Leader: Katie Rasmussen
October is Catholic Mission Month, a special time in the Church’s year when we are invited to reflect on how we can share hope, compassion and love with others — both in our local community and around the world.
At St Patrick’s, part of our role as a Catholic school is to help students understand what it means to live out their faith through action. Throughout the year we’ve supported initiatives such as Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion during Lent and our Can Drive to assist local families. This term, we will once again turn our focus to Catholic Mission, the international mission agency of the Catholic Church in Australia, which works to bring hope, dignity and opportunity to people facing poverty and hardship.
To mark Catholic Mission Month, each class will take part in a special learning activity called “Seeds of Change.” Students will plant flower seeds as a way of symbolising how small actions — like kindness, generosity and prayer — can grow into something beautiful when nurtured with care. As the flowers grow, they will serve as a reminder of how our faith, when lived out through love and service, can make the world a brighter and more hopeful place.
This simple but meaningful activity connects with our school values of Kindness, Respect and Learning, and helps students see that mission isn’t just something that happens far away — it begins right here, with the choices we make each day to help others and care for God’s creation.
Together, we are planting seeds of hope, peace and joy that will continue to grow long after the flowers bloom.
