Year 5/6

Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY

READING: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. As students complete a book, they are to record the author, title and date of finishing in their Readers’ Workshop book. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.

NAPLAN: NAPLAN is here for year 5 students! Please ensure your child is getting enough sleep and eating the right foods to fuel their brains. Please also ensure iPads, headphones and keyboards are fully charged each day. The schedule for NAPLAN is:

Week 7

Wednesday: Writing

Thursday: Reading

Friday: Conventions of Language                                                                                             Week 8

Monday: Maths

Year 6 students will be working through different maths learning at the same time as year 5 are undertaking NAPLAN. Some of this learning will focus on concepts such as cartesian planes which relates more specifically to the year 6 curriculum, rather than year 5 curriculum.

Year 6 Jumpers: To ensure the longevity of the jumpers, it has been advised by the manufacturer that the jumpers are washed and dried inside out. We don’t recommend wearing them inside out though.

Unit Of Inquiry: Students have been given a summative assessment about our unit on changes and wellbeing. This assessment is due Monday morning (Week 8).

Literacy: Students are finishing their narrative (story) writing and will hand this up at the end of this week.

Mathematics: We are currently working on division and will be touching on probability and fractions during this week.

Touch Typing: As we have started touch typing, it has become evident that a number of students don’t have a working keyboard. The iPad keyboard will be important in the development of keyboard skills which will be part of their class learning. Headphones will also be regularly used in class for a variety of purposes. Both items will be necessary for Year 5s to complete NAPLAN. Again, thank you for helping with this.

IPads: iPad agreements were sent home last week. Can you please ensure you have gone through the agreement with your child. We have had cluster discussions about expectations around iPad usage and we appreciate this being reinforced at home. These were due back last Friday.

Yours sincerely,
