2024 Japanese Poster Competition : Year of the Dragon
In Japan, the Year of the Dragon in the lunar calendar brings a touch of mythical charm. This mythical creature is associated with health, energy, trustworthiness and bravery.
All students learning Japanese from Year 1 to Year 10 were invited to participate in the statewide JATNET (Japanese Teachers’ Network Tasmania) Poster Competition. Criteria included writing dragon in one or more scripts (eg. tatsu, たつ、辰), hand drawing a dragon and including Japanese themes.
Entries have closed and all posters can be viewed here. The posters will be judged in 4 categories: Year 1-2, Year 3-4, Year 5-6 and Year 7-10. Of all these entries received at school, only three per category are able to be presented to the JATNET judges. Below are the students, in no particular order, whose posters were selected. Results will be announced early next term. Congratulations to all the students who participated.

Japanese Children's Day
The national Japanese holiday 'Kodomo no hi' – Children's Day is about encouraging children to be strong and resilient and wishing them health and happiness.
The City of Hobart is hosting a Japanese Children's Day Event at Mawson's Pavillion on Sunday 5 May and invites children and their families to come and experience this traditional cultural celebration together. There will be performances and workshops, including:
At Mount Carmel, we are inviting the College community to make koinobori (carp fish decorations) for us to display at school to celebrate this event.
We have made a step-by-step video on how to make these....maybe you could give it a try in the school holidays.
