Introducing this year's presidents
My name is Milja Lin and along with Pranit Praveen we are pleased to introduce ourselves as the Co-Presidents of the Student Representative Council for 2024. We are joined by a fantastic group of students, all of whom are excited to be a part of a group working to improve GEC this year. Our job is to advocate for student voices and work to make positive changes within our school community. If you have any questions or ideas please feel free to come talk to us at any time. Led by Mr Chiumello, we’ve already started working on some exciting new projects and can’t wait to see what will come next!
International Women's Day
On Friday 8th March, GEC celebrated International Women's Day. SRC was super excited to be working with the BOCI committee in leading our school’s celebration. If you kept an eye out, you would have noticed our International Women’s Day Quotes on the classroom walls and around the school. From Jane Austen to Serena Williams and even Simone de Beauvoir, we were so happy to hear their inspirational words over the loudspeaker in the morning. A big thank you to the BOCI committee members for their work creating and selling the purple ribbons, Layla Schauder for her work on advertising the day and to Lubou Mikhailouskaya for leading the student art project. The chalk re-creation of the International Women’s Day symbol was created and proudly displayed on the ground outside the main entrance. A beautiful piece that we all loved admiring as we made our way to and from classes that day. And finally a big thank you to Madame Loveena and Emily for their work to make the day as special as it was.
Cultural Diversity Casual Dress Day
On Thursday 21st March (Harmony Day), GEC students celebrated our diverse community by encouraging students and staff to wear anything cultural or dress in your flag colours or in orange. A gold coin donation was collected from students who participated. All donations will be sent to the Asylum Seeker Research Centre.
SRC Athletics Day Barbeque
On the 26th April, the SRC will be hosting a barbeque for the school Athletics Day. Students, volunteers and staff will be able to purchase beef sausages in bread on the day using cash or card. Funds raised will be donated to State School’s Relief. If there are any parents who would like to assist, please let us know at glen.eira.co@education.vic.gov.au
