From the Principal Team

What a wonderful term we have had.  Our students have been involved in a wide range of programs already this term including the Swimming Carnival, interschool sports, Year 7 camp, Francophonie Celebrations, Cultural Diversity Week and Harmony Day, Alpine Leadership Camp, a range of excursions, lunchtime activities and more.  You will read about many of these throughout the newsletter.

The Year 12 formal was a wonderful night – our students looked so beautiful and happy as they danced the night away.

We welcome Terry McGann – Careers and Pathways Coordinator starting this week and Mai Le – Integration Aide. Mai Le is starting beginning of term 2.

Thank you to Celine and Kai for organising the GEC team.  Last year the GEC team was the highest fundraising team in Victoria! Let’s see if we can do it again!

This is a wonderful opportunity for the GEC community to come together.

General Multi Classification Guide for School Sport

Multi Classification groups athletes who have similar impairments together into classes for competition in their particular sport. The classification assessment process is managed by the national federation for the sport, in conjunction with other system partners.

Our Alumni

I am delighted with the continued progress of our Alumni led by our wonderful coordinator, Bridie Skinner (an alumni herself!).  The focus this term has been to increase our connections with alumni, develop our social media pages and start creating conversations around bringing in alumni for on campus sessions. The Glen Eira College Alumni Facebook page has been our main source of communication to past students and the wider school community. This page has consistently been updated with alumni bios each Thursday. We have also used this platform to celebrate alternative alumni involvement within the school, for example, on International Women’s Day. You can visit the page at this link: https://www.facebook.com/GlenEiraCollegeAlumni

Building our Community and Identity

Building Our Community and Identity Committee has been busy this term. The committee organised ribbon selling and a staff raffle for International Women’s Day. $306.90 was raised for the Supporting Girls Foundation.

Students and staff enjoyed having African music and dancing for Cultural Diversity Week. It was nice to hear African music from around the francophone world played at lunchtime and students and staff dancing to the tunes.
