Languages Corner

Cultural Diversity Week & Francophonie Week

To celebrate Cultural Diversity and Francophonie Week, the languages learning area was busy organising special events for our students!

There were themed breakfast clubs throughout the week. On Monday, students enjoyed Japanese miso soup and learned how to make onigiri.

On Wednesday, breakfast club went to Israel and students discovered that Israeli food is a combination of different cultures.

On Friday, students indulged in French croissants and brioches!

French language students went to the French Film Festival. Year 9 students in the French Immersion and the French First Language programs as well as Year 10, 11 and 12 French students saw the movie Divertimento about two teenage sisters of Algerian descent who dream to break into the world of classical music.

Year 7 students learning French as well as Year 8 Immersion and French First Language students watched the movie The Snow Must Go On telling the story of a group of disengaged students going on a school trip to a glacier in the Alps.

Students really enjoyed this special day and the opportunity to watch a French movie with their friends!

In class, year 7 French students learned about the diversity of the French speaking world and created a poster about a francophone country. Bravo les année 7 pour vos creations!

To conclude this week of celebrations, our Year 9 French immersion students and Year 7 French First Language students participated in an African dance workshop in French led by dancer David Smile.

Thanks to everyone involved in making this week special!
