Catholic Identity

A call to all parents and families.  We are currently accepting enrolments for the Sacrament of Reconciliation 2024

The Sacrament of Reconciliation for 2024, will commence on Tuesday 14th May.  This is a four-week program culminating in the students receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on June 11th.  Students are required to have been baptized before taking part in the Sacramental program and it usually involves students in Year 3 and above.

The program will be run on consecutive Tuesdays commencing on May 14th, and continuing on 21st, 28th and June 4th.  The sessions run for approximately 45 minutes.  St Francis staff will assist with the program that is run on behalf of the parish.  It is expected that the students will be accompanied by a parent or carer, as it is a family based program with follow-up work to be completed during the week.

For further information, or to enrol your child, please contact

LENT

Lent is a season in the Catholic Church that lasts for 40 days, starting on Ash Wednesday and ending on Holy Thursday. During this time, Catholics are encouraged to reflect on their relationship with God, make sacrifices, and engage in acts of charity and kindness.

Here are some Lenten practices that are appropriate for Catholic primary school kids:

1. Fasting: Encourage your child to choose a food or activity to give up during Lent. For example, they can skip dessert or limit their screen time.

2. Prayer: Teach your child how to pray and encourage them to spend more time in prayer during Lent. You can also pray together as a family.

3. Almsgiving: Encourage your child to donate money or items to a charity during Lent. This can help them become more aware of the needs of others and develop a spirit of generosity.

4. Forgiveness: Encourage your child to apologise and seek forgiveness from others during Lent. This can help them learn the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation.

5. Service: Encourage your child to volunteer at a local charity or participate in a service project during Lent. This can help them put their faith into action and serve others in need.

Overall, Lent is a time for Catholics to deepen their faith and develop spiritual habits that can last a lifetime. By encouraging your child to participate in Lenten practices,

you can help them grow in their relationship with God and become more compassionate and loving individuals.
