& S.P.O.R.T.
Year 7 have settled well into their high school PDHPE lesson and Integrated Sport lessons. In PDHPE, we have been focusing on GRIT, Mental Health concepts and how having resilience can help us navigate challenging times. In practical lesson, students have been working in groups to complete challenge activities designed to provide students with opportunities to practise collaboration, communication, problem solving and persistence skills.
Year 8 Have been studying a “Click, Like, Share” unit of work which focuses on developing their social media skills. Students have used numeracy skills to determine a person's percentage of time spent on social media platforms. Concepts covered in class have included how to be respectful online, what is a digital footprint and sexting. We look forward to seeing what resources students produce as their project to raise awareness about issues online.
Year 9 have been exploring the concept of Lifelong Physical Activity. We have taken an in-depth look at the health related Fitness Components and during practical lessons students have been participating in a range of Fitness games. Students will be working in small groups to create their own fitness game and will be tasked to teach their game to the class. We are looking forward to seeing lots of creative and innovative games from Year 9!
Year 10 have been getting their Dance on!!! It has been great to see our Year 10 cohort take on a different movement context with such enthusiasm! From line dancing, bush dances and some Just Dance inspiration, students have been working in small groups to choreograph their own dance routine! In theory lessons, we have been discussing what “Respectful Relationships” are and the qualities that are fundamental for establishing respect in all the different relationships they have.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding PDHPE lessons, to ensure your child is prepared for learning in theory lessons, it is important that students have packed their “charged” learning device, a book and pen. In practical lessons, if your child is injured and cannot participate please supply a note for the teacher. We would still love your child to be involved in the lesson playing an administrative role such as time keeping, scoring or equipment set up and pack down.

Long-awaited success for Opens Boys Cricket
Coach Lachlan Vasella
On Wednesday of Week 5, the Open Boys Cricket team travelled to Singleton to play 2 knockout games against Singleton and Muswellbrook. In hot conditions the boys put on a display with both bat and ball to win both games convincingly and advance to the quarterfinals.
After winning the toss and batting in the first game, the boys scored 130 runs for the loss of 4 wickets from our 20 overs with Ryder Howard the star of the innings scoring 56 runs, with Ethan Edgell the next best with 16 not out. The boys made quick work of Singleton with the ball, bowling them out for 56 runs in 13 overs with Eoin Comerford taking 3 wickets and Ethan Edgell taking 2 wickets. In our second game against Muswellbrook the boys scored 132 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their 20 overs with Tate Wootton-Brydon scoring 50 runs and Ryder Howard ending on 33 not out.
In our bowling innings Muswellbrook ended their 20 overs 70 runs short of our target with all of our bowlers sharing the wickets to cap a successful day. These victories are a massive achievement as it is the first time in a number of years that our school has advanced this far into the Open Boys Cricket tournament with their next game to be played in the coming weeks. All of the boys should be congratulated for this massive achievement and their efforts on the day!
City Valley Cup
Coach Peter Asvestas
Kurri Kurri High's Bill Turner Soccer squad displayed commendable resilience and skill in their recent endeavours at the City Valley Cup.
Despite facing stiff competition, they showcased their talent and determination on the field. Their journey saw a mix of triumphs and setbacks, as they encountered formidable opponents like Kotara High. Despite a valiant effort, they fell short against Kotara High.
However, their spirits remained undaunted as they rallied to secure a victory against Cessnock, showcasing their tenacity and teamwork. Regrettably, their journey came to an end after a hard-fought match against Rutherford, where they narrowly missed out on a spot in the semi-finals. Though the outcome may not have been what they hoped for, Kurri Kurri High's soccer squad undoubtedly left their mark with their passion for the game and unwavering dedication.
Open Boys Touch Football
Coach Tracy Patton
WE ARE OFF TO THE FINALS!!!
We return home undefeated from the Upper Hunter, Coalfields, Eastlakes and Westlakes Touch Football Gala Day. With wins against West Wallsend, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Lake Macquarie and Cardiff High Schools, our boys deserve to feel proud. Our boys will compete in the Hunter 8 Finals series in Week 11. We wish them the best of luck!
Fast 5 Netball
Coach Jenna Cole
The following students represented Kurri Kurri High in a Fast 5 Gala day at Wangi Wangi- Eliza Sumerville, Olivia Williams, Annabelle Reike, Stephanie Hilton, Joshua Harrison, Cooper Harris, Hudson Woolley and Matthew Campbell.
Fast 5 is a modified, faster paced game with only 5 players on the court. Goals are worth 1, 2 or 3 points depending on the area the attackers shoot from with teams being able to select a power play half.
Although the day was wet, student’s displayed great sportsmanship and proved competitive over the day, whilst having a lot of fun! Well done to all students for representing Kurri Kurri High with respect and pride!
