BIG PICTURE

Stage 6 – Big Picture Academy – Year 11

The Year 11 Big Picture Academy has begun the Senior Graduation Portfolio as part of the International Big Picture Learning Credential. The IBPLC is an International Credential that allows students to follow their passions and interests through the Big Picture Learning Design. The Big Picture Learning Design allows students to access pathways such as University, TAFE, apprenticeship and full-time employment. Students are assessed 4 times over their senior years on what they can do and this is in partnership with the University of Melbourne. Students will receive a Credential at the end of year 12 which is internationally recognised .

Despite the reduction in Advisories at KKHS in 2024, we are steadfastly committed and enthusiastic about revitalizing the Big Picture Academy. Our aim is to transform it into a platform showcasing students' academic endeavour's. Over the next twelve months, expect to witness a series of dynamic and innovative changes to this esteemed learning opportunity, highlighting the successes of our students within the Advisory program.

During Term 1 we have had some new students start within the Advisory. They have settled in and the Year 11 is becoming a settled and cohesive group. As their Advisor, they are showing some great personal qualities and leadership schools that will take them past their school years.

Students have already begun to participate in LTI’s, TAFE or SBAT’s which is a mandatory requirement of the Big Picture Learning Design. Layla McDonald, Shelby James, Alliyah Bromell are all participating in an SBAT. Hayden Battle and Tory Jones are participating in a LTI at Tame That Computer at Kurri Kurri, whilst completing a Cert III at TAFE. Darcy-Lee Scoles is participating in a Cert III TAFE course in Animal Care.

The Advisory has 5 students on a university pathway. BPLA has 100% success rate of students applying to get into university through the IBPLC and BPLA is partnered with 18 Universities across Australia. Other students within the Advisory are looking at Apprenticeships, TAFE and full time employment in their preferred industries. The IBPLC is an innovative pathway that assesses students through the Learning Goals and what they can do.
