Community Engagement/Events
Inspired by you (IBY) are working with our year 9 students during their Science class once a week.
Following article from IBY:
IBY recognises students from culturally diverse backgrounds have fewer role models and opportunities to achieve the careers of their dreams. They don't have the opportunity to network, or meet STEM professionals. IBY thinks having relatable mentors and role models in students’ lives is important, making sure none of them feels left behind. This is why we are so passionate about what we do.
Since the inception of IBY, we have aimed to have mentors work with students consistently over a period of time, creating engagement and overall confidence.
We recently started to achieve this goal by commencing a one year program with Lyndale Secondary College. Students were matched with our passionate and committed mentors currently working in STEM fields. The focus of our first session on March 14 was to establish connections and gather information to match students with mentors and designing future sessions tailored to their needs.
The march session also focused on building connections, increasing engagement, and inspiring students' future academic and career paths through real-life experiences and projects. We split the students into groups and they got to ask the mentors questions. By the end of the sessions, the students had co-ownership for designing an ongoing program to suit their individual needs. It was fantastic to see the students so engaged, with most now feeling they have the freedom to choose the career they would like to pursue.
A BIG thank you to our mentors Madan P., Nirav Desai, Raghavender (Ragu) Mantatikar, and Akanksha Puli.
We look forward to seeing this program through the full year! If you'd like to find out how you can help visit https://lnkd.in/gzA6VDMh
