Student Leadership

Our Student Representative Council have had a fantastic first term with many successful events organised. Their work has taken great steps in building a strong sense of community and school pride. Here is a recap of some of the significant activities in our first term.

Valentine's Day

With the intent of making it a special day for everyone, a team of 20 'Cupid' SRC members collected 750 cards for delivery to students. This is an amazing increase from previous years’ Valentine’s Day. A special feature of the event was the Universal Letter of Compassion. This is a special letter handed out randomly to different classes and acted as a reminder that you don’t need to have a romantic partner in order to participate in Valentine’s Day, but rather, it is more important to remember to love themselves!

Melbourne Secondary Youth Leadership Conference

Seven SRC members from across the year levels attended the Melbourne Secondary Youth Leadership Conference led by the Youth Leadership Academy of Australia. Our student leaders experienced a full day conference at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre where several guest speakers presented.

Free-Dress Day (Good Friday Appeal and Dunk the Teacher)

One of the sub groups of the SRC – the Wellbeing and Inclusion team – wanted to focus on enhancing the relationships between staff and students. A special “Dunk the Teacher” event was organised, in which students could pay to dunk the teachers. It was a great success – there were crowds of students who came to watch DSC staff being dunked (even our principal Mr Morris 😮).

$652.40 was raised in the classroom collections and $302.50 was raised in the ‘Dunk the Teacher’ event. This is the most amount of money raised by SRC in recent years! A total of $954.90 was raised for the Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

We are noticing a positive trend in money raised through Free Dress Days over the years. Compared to the Free-Dress Day in Term 1 in 2023 which raised $457.70, more than double that amount was raised this year with $954.9 (an increase of $497.20).
