Year 9 Cluster Days - Innovation

This term, our Year 9 students have been deep diving into the world of careers education with our new subject, 'Future Ready'!' This innovative program features Cluster Days, which explores the six types of careers clusters.

Earlier in March, our Year 9 students focused on their first cluster: INNOVATION!

Students discovered the vast array of opportunities within the realm of innovation, with many being surprised that innovator careers take many forms. Our students had the privilege of hearing firsthand from industry professionals, including the dynamic duo, Bec and Tim from Planet Innovation and Vivian Qiu a fashion and jewellery artist.

A couple of key takeaway points from the day:

  • There are LOTS of opportunities to get involved in innovator-type careers - beyond the sterotypical science and engineering.
  • Design Thinking practices are common in innovator careers. When working on solving problems or identifying business opportunities, never jump straight to the perceived answer. Always take the time to go through the design thinking process first. Your final solution will be so much better!
  • Don't panic if you don't get the ATAR you need to get into your first preference Uni course. There are plenty of pathways to get you there, and a less direct pathway makes you richer in terms of knowledge and experience.
  • Your personal interests count. Incorporating your passions and cultural identity will help create your own unique offering to the world of employment.
  • Deep-dive into your own identity and personal understanding. Self-knowledge will help build a successful career that you love.

Our students were inspired by real-world success stories that showcased the endless potential of innovation-driven careers.

'Future Ready' is not just a subject; it's a gateway to a world of possibilities, empowering our students to shape their destinies and make meaningful contributions to the world.
