Bangarra Rekindling Youth Program

In Term 1, Bangarra's Rekindling Youth Program began with four St Anne's College

students taking part in the traditional dance program, supported by our Koori Education Officer Tina Thompson.

The program included On Country gatherings with around 30 students in Years 6-11 from our college and several other schools across Shepparton which took place on Monday March 18 and Tuesday March 19.

Thank you to the following Elders and community leaders for sharing their stories and knowledge and giving the group a tour of various locations:

  • Aunty Rochelle Patten and Tammy-Lee Atkinson, The Flats
  • Aunty Cheryl Bourke and Uncle Lance James, Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative
  • Aunty Marlene Atkinson and Uncle Roland, Bangerang Cultural Centre

Following this, students met at Rumbalara Football Netball Clubrooms on Wednesday March 20 to start using the information from the On Country visits to create a dance. Students are continuing to work on and rehearse the dance during April-May.

A big thank you goes to Sidney and the Rekindling team for all their work to-date, and we are very much looking forward to their return in April and May and seeing what the students produce.

A final performance will be held on May 10 information regarding this event will be shared in the near future – keep an eye out.

Caritas Fundraising Wrap-Up!

At St Anne's College, students and staff have reflected on the lives of people who are vulnerable to extreme poverty and injustice by supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion Appeal.  Throughout Term 1, students, with the support of staff, ran a series of fundraising events and initiatives.

Significant days in the Term 1 calendar provided an opportunity for fundraising with students flipping and serving pancakes for a gold coin donation on Shrove Tuesday as well as a BBQ lunch and gelato on Harmony Day and another BBQ on a swimming day.

Students also kept funds ticking over throughout the Term with special Zooper Dooper Days and offering second hand uniforms for sale - all proceeds from these sales went toward Project Compassion.

In the final week of Term, a huge Caritas Fundraiser Day was held with several events on offer for students to participate in while raising funds at the same time.

Students helped to run a series of activities including a coin line competition, water relay, and lunchtime disco. The water relay was also an opportunity to highlight the vulnerability and lack of water supply for the communities Project Compassion supports.

It was a huge effort, with a huge grand total of $5,208.85 donated to Caritas Australia!

Project Compassion is Caritas Australia’s main annual fundraising campaign to help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world. Held during Lent, Project Compassion is an extraordinary demonstration of the faith, empathy and generosity of our college.

Community Action Team kicking goals!

A huge shout out to our CAT (Community Action Team) for the work they do, in particular their Zooper Dooper fundraising efforts for Project Compassion in Term 1.

This team alone raised over $2500!

St Anne's College is very proud of your dedication and efforts and thank you for you commitment.

St Anne's Sports Association News

We are seeking expressions of interest from School of Wonder students, siblings and friends who may be interested in playing soccer for St Anne’s in the 2024 SJSA season.

We are also seeking expressions of interest from parents, aunts, uncles etc. to become junior soccer coaches and team managers. These are vital roles; if we don’t have a coach and team manager for each team, a team cannot be formed. Participating in soccer is a great way to build friendships and get active.
