Foundation

How we organise ourselves

An inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organisations; societal decision-making; economic activities and their impact on humankind and the environment.

Using the concepts of form, connection and change children will explore the idea that; ‘Many products go through a process of change before they are consumed.’ They will investigate the following lines of inquiry;

  • origins of food products
  • changes food products go through
  • distribution of food products

Learning Positioning

We are learning to describe the position of an object. We stood beside, next to, in front of, under, between and above objects in the playground.

Year 1/2

Who we are

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

Using the concepts of form and perspective children will explore the idea that; ‘knowing and understanding who I am helps me learn and grow.’ They will investigate the following lines of inquiry;

  • physical, social and emotional characteristics
  • personal abilities and interests
  • how we learn best

Year 3/4

Places of Worship Excursion

By Year 3 students Chelsea and Mian

As part of our inquiry unit, Who We Are, we visited two different places of worship in Shepparton. We are looking at how rituals, traditions, artefacts and celebrations provide a window into culture and beliefs.

On Friday April 19, we went on an excursion to a Mosque and a Church. We were learning about their religion and the different artefacts, rituals and traditions that they have. At the mosque, we learnt that they pray five times a day at particular times. We were also told about how Muslims fast during Ramadan. Afterwards we were treated to biscuits and pastries which were really yum.

At St Mel's Church, we learnt about the different artefacts that are used in Church. There was a big candle and it is changed each year. We were also told about how Jesus' cross can be found in Italy.

We had a great time.

Who we are

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

Using the concepts of perspective and reflection children will explore the idea that; ‘Rituals, traditions, artefacts and celebrations provide a window into culture and beliefs.’ They will investigate the following lines of inquiry;

  • How beliefs and a culture's identity are reflected in rituals and traditions
  • How artefacts help us learn more about rituals, traditions and celebrations of a culture
  • How cultural groups develop and contribute to the appearance of a place

Who Sank Your Boat?

After reading ‘Who sank the boat?’ children were challenged to design and make a boat to carry five animals across some water. Children explored the word buoyancy and how a boat doesn't actually sit on top of the water. Many boats did not make the trip but some did.

Thank you to Bravehearts for bringing Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show to speak to children in Foundation, Year 1 and 2 at the end of Term 1.

The program teaches young children essential personal safety skills using age-appropriate language, song, and dance.

Starring Bravehearts’ lovable lion cub ‘Ditto’, the interactive show was thoroughly enjoyed by students. Thank you Bravehearts for visiting!

From waste management and pet ownership to local playgrounds and sporting facilities, Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Cr Shane Sali spoke to Year 1 and 2 children about all things local government at the end of Term 1.

The children were given an informative talk from the Mayor, with the help of Council’s Waste Education Officer and Community Rangers, where they learnt lots about everything the Council does. It was also a chance for the children to pat some of the ranger’s furry friends with some lucky children even getting the opportunity to scan their microchips.

Thank you to Mayor Sali and Council officers for sharing their time with us and informing the children about all things Greater Shepparton.

'Everyone Belongs'

Thank you to Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project who generously donated a Harmony Week Literacy and Activity Pack called 'Everyone Belongs' to our College.

The pack is full of ideas, resources, six books and activities to promote literacy with a focus on cultural learning, inclusion and celebrating diversity.

A huge thank you to Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project's Brilliant Bookworms program as well as the Scanlon Foundation who supported this project.

Arriving at school

Please support our staff, and remember that drop off for children is from 8:30am. This is when staff are on duty. Prior to this any staff onsite are preparing for the day ahead, duty of care requirements mean children onsite require supervision and doing this takes staff away from their important preparation time.
