Year 1

Hello from 1S

In English, we’ve embarked on thrilling literary adventures with narratives like "Steven Seagull Action Hero" and the beloved classic "Zog" by Julia Donaldson. Our focus has been on unravelling story sequences, analysing character traits, and identifying various text features. The students have also been honing their creative skills by developing unique characters for their own stories, all while mastering the art of descriptive sentences.

In mathematics, we’ve been delving into addition and subtraction, teaching our students valuable problem-solving techniques such as counting on and counting back. Through the use of number lines and the process of number partitioning, they're gaining a solid grasp of foundational mathematical concepts.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Our Year 1s have been hard at work rehearsing for the upcoming assembly performance, scheduled for this coming Monday. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their talents and teamwork skills while coming together as a grade level to deliver an unforgettable show.

Throughout last term, Year 1S had the pleasure of participating in a variety of activities alongside our buddies from 6V. Together, we bonded over shared snacks, celebrated events like Harmony Day, and even had fun crafting Easter baskets and hats. It was a time filled with friendship, laughter, and shared experiences that we'll cherish fondly.

With such enthusiasm and dedication from our students, it’s clear that this term is off to an exceptional start. We can’t wait to see all the learning and growth that lies ahead!
