Hello from Prep W

WOW, it is now Term 2 and we have learnt so much already this year. Here is a little snapshot of what we did as part of our Phonics lesson last week for the sound ’oa’ as in boat.

First, we practised all the sounds we had learnt so far. We said the name, the sound and did the actions for each. We are able to do this without any adult help now and are very confident and of course proud of ourselves.

Then we introduced our new sound ‘oa’, identified the letters that make that sound, the action to accompany it and the Jolly Phonics song. We listened to and joined in with the Pevan & Sarah's Phonics Funk song to go with our letter and then a story on Jolly Classroom. After that we brainstormed and made a list of words that had that sound in them.

Next, we practised our letter formation by writing some of the sounds we have already learnt and then the sound of the day. After that we completed the first section of our handwriting sheet, practising forming our ‘oa’ letters correctly.

Back to floor we came to write some of the words with our ‘oa’ sound in them. We sounded out the words on our worksheet and practised blending them together to read them. Mrs Williams said the words, sounded them out and told us how many letters and sounds in each. After that we went back to our table and completed the word section of our worksheet and coloured in the pictures.

Finally, we came back to the floor to practise reading (sounding out and blending the sounds together to read the word) and writing CVC words, finishing off with a sentence. Mrs Williams told us each word, sounded it out and told us how many letters and sounds in it and reminded us to use finger spaces between our words.

We are VERY PROUD of our achievements!
