Year 5

This term in 5G we started our Literature Circles groups. Each week the students will discuss and agree on how many chapters they will read and the role in which they will complete. During their meeting time (once a week) students discuss details of the book, share their ideas and experiences and have a conversation about the role they have completed during the week.

The roles are:

• Discussion Director- asks two open ended questions about the passage they have read
• Summariser- writes a short 2 sentence summary of the chapters
• Word Wizard- Finds a word from the book that is new to them and writes a definition and a sentence using the word
• Literary Luminary- Finds a small passage in the text that holds meaning for the storyline. 
• Illustrator- draws a picture of the main scene in the previous passage
• Travel Tracer- Draws a comic strip style drawing of the settings in the passage

The students have done a wonderful job this week during their first lit circles. It was amazing to hear the discussions about the books and how detailed their thoughts and feelings are. I’m very proud of each and every student and look forward to a wonderful term of lit circles!
