Library Update

Miss J. Le & Mr B. Luxa

The St Johns Park School Library is excited to embark on another wonderful year of reading, learning and exploration. Please take note of the following important information regarding library lessons and upcoming events.

Library Lessons start on Monday, 17th February, 2025.

Library lessons will begin in Week 4. During these sessions, students will have the opportunity to borrow books, participate in engaging activities and discover the wide range of resources available in our library. We encourage all students to bring a library bag with them to ensure their books are kept safe and protected. Borrowing will start in Week 5 from Monday, 24th February, 2025.

NSW Premiers' Reading Challenge (PRC) 2025

What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge?

The PRC is a statewide challenge that encourages students to develop a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students and enables them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition, but a challenge to encourage each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge (PRC) for 2025 will open in Week 5 on Monday, 24th February, 2025 and will close on Friday, 22nd August, 2025.

How many books do students need to read?

Years K-2 read 30 books

Students in Kindergarten – Year 2 can ‘experience’ their books. Your child can listen to a book, participate in a shared reading of a book or read a book independently.

Years 3-6 read 20 books

Students in Years 3 – 6 will read their books independently.

An information note regarding the NSW Premiers' Reading Challenge (PRC) will be provided soon.

Hints for reading at home

  • Reading to and with your child can be a very special time spent together.

  • Set a regular time to read each day. You might even set a timer.

  • Talk about the book as you read – think of this as a discussion not a set of formal questions.

  • Match books with family activities.

  • Have a family reading time.

  • Consider reading the library book yourself so you can connect with your child and the books they enjoy.
