Grade 6

Literacy

Next week, we are beginning our new Core Knowledge Unit about Ancient Greece and Rome.

In writing, students are completing their unit on poetry, then developing their skills in writing information texts to accompany their reading units. Expanding sentences and upgrading nouns will be the focus for Grammar and Syntax.

Numeracy

Throughout the next two weeks, students will be learning how to:

-use the order of operations to evaluate multiplication, addition, subtraction, and division expressions.

-construct equations using four operations.

-finding equivalent combinations of numerical expressions.

-apply the order of operations with calculators and spreadsheets

Inquiry

Throughout the next fortnight, Grade 6 students will continue researching their chosen quality leader. They are practicing research skills and note-taking. Students are excited to share their final products with family and friends in the last week of term.

Homework

In Grade 6, homework is not mandatory. If students are looking to do some extra work at home, we recommend the following:

-MyNumeracy

-Reading each night (a conversation over dinner or in the car about what they are reading is also helpful).
