Grade 5

Literacy

Students are completing their Core Knowledge Unit on World Lakes this week. They will then begin their next unit; 'Maya, Aztec and Inca Civilisations.' The unit explores the development of empires and the skills that they had in architecture and engineering, as well as astronomy and the establishment of the solar calendar.

To support their literacy skills, students will be learning about the structures and features of information texts.

Numeracy

Over the next two weeks, students will be learning how to:

-Use factors to solve multiplication and division problems.

-calculate the highest common factors, and the lowest common multiples.

-Divide large numbers, representing remainders as fractions and decimals.

-Find unknown numbers in multiplication and division equations.

Inquiry

Students are learning how to research effectively and use credible sources. They are applying their learning about research tactics and note-taking to complete their projects for our 'Going Global' unit of work. We are looking forward to sharing these in the last week of term.
