Grade 4

Literacy Block
Over the past two weeks, students have explored the topic of Medieval Islamic Empires in depth. They have investigated key questions such as what Muhammad’s decision regarding the replacement of the holy stone reveals about his character and why the flight to Medina marked the beginning of a new era in Islamic history.
In addition, students continue to refine their handwriting by copying passages, focusing on maintaining consistent letter formation and joins. They also participate in daily reading fluency practice, both with a partner and as a whole class. Lastly, they engaged in three explicit spelling lessons each week.
Numeracy
The Grade 4 students have been deepening their understanding of fractions, focusing on converting mixed numerals to improper fractions and ordering them on number lines. They have applied this knowledge through problem-solving tasks.
Next, they will begin a unit on Time, covering concepts such as 'am' and 'pm' notation and calculating finish times to the hour.
P.I.P.S
The students have been loving working as Gardeners, Foodies and Recyclers in the program. Thank you to all the parents who have helped out so far!
