New Staff Introductions
Deputy Principal of Staff Development & Organisation - Kerry Jell
It is my pleasure to introduce and warmly welcome the newest members of our Mount Alvernia College community. Each of them brings a wealth of experience, unique skills, and fresh perspectives that will enrich our students' learning and our College as a whole.
We are proud to have them join us and look forward to the contributions they will make in their respective roles. Please take a moment to read their introductions and join us in making them feel at home in our vibrant community.
Physical Education Teacher
My passions include empowering students to build their confidence in Physical Education and to build independence in their learning and personal health. Empowering students to build independence and autonomy within their learning and health is an important life skill that I aim to incorporate into each lesson. Coming from a background in student wellbeing, this is a core focus of my teachings which intertwines very well in the Physical Education space. I also love coaching Futsal and Soccer, which I am very excited to be part of this year!
Drama, English, Humanities & Religious Education Teacher
I am thrilled to be on staff this year at Mt A. I have worked in various schools over the years and have spent most of the last decade caring for our three children. I am familiar with the culture of the school through my role as a supply teacher at the college since 2019 and I am excited to re-ignite my career in teaching. This year I am back in the Drama classroom which is an area that sparked my passion for teaching seventeen years ago. You'll also find me teaching the junior years in English, Humanities and Religious Education.
Science Teacher
I am a passionate teacher of Chemistry and Mathematics. In my Mathematics classes, my students enjoy hands-on activities where they have the chance to manipulate and interact with physical models. In doing this, they are more easily able to extend their textbook learnings to the real world and become numerate citizens. My Chemistry students make links between and within intricate scientific concepts by recognising patterns in well-grounded theories and also experimentally collected data. Students in all of my classes are supported to become confident learners, team players and leaders. None of this is possible without a positive student-teacher relationship and I make that a priority of every interaction with my students.
Humanities and Commerce Teacher
My teaching journey began in Bundaberg, where I gained valuable insights into the lived experiences of young Australians in regional Queensland. As a Humanities teacher, I am passionate about mentoring students to become confident, worldly, resilient critical thinkers and global citizens. I see my purpose as a teacher as opening up students' eyes to the world around them and giving them the tools to navigate it — especially in this era of change and uncertainty. I am thrilled to be joining the Mount Alvernia community in 2025 and am grateful for the opportunity to empower young women to embrace their potential as learners, community members, and leaders.
Humanities & Commerce Teacher
I have taught in Brisbane for a number of years and have also spent time teaching in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. I have a passion for teaching all of the disciplines within the Humanities. One of the reasons I enjoy teaching the Humanities subjects so much is the capacity for students to continually surprise me with the depth and perceptiveness of their perspectives. This capacity has already been on clear display for the short time I have been at Mount Alvernia.
Head of Learning Enhancement & Support
Over the past 20 years, I have dedicated myself to the field of education from years P-10, mainly working with students from neurodivergent and marginalized backgrounds. My journey as an educator has been incredibly rewarding thus far, with a notable highlight being a teacher exchange program in Toronto, Canada, which I completed alongside my family.
I believe that every student has the potential to improve, and learning truly unfolds when students are equipped with the right tools and/or support. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in various educational settings, focusing on English, Literacy and Numeracy intervention and Religious education teaching. I also find it rewarding to analyse student data, as it provides valuable insights into student progress and the effectiveness of the strategies implemented.
As a middle leader in Inclusive Education, I’ve been passionate about fostering an environment of inclusion. My core purpose has always been to empower both staff and students, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive in their educational journey.
In both my professional and personal experience, I have developed a deep understanding of the importance of inclusion, ensuring that all students regardless of their challenges have the opportunity to succeed.
Laboratory Technician
Science and teaching have always been my passions! I love the excitement that comes with sharing scientific knowledge and the sense of wonder it inspires. Academically, I hold a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences and have experience working with various research teams. The opportunity to work in the school’s laboratory means so much to me. I’m here to support both students and teachers, making experiments fun, accessible, and full of discovery!
