Celebrating Academic Excellence at Mount Alvernia College

The 2025 Celebration of Excellence Assembly was a moment of joy and inspiration last week as we gathered to recognise the outstanding achievements of our students in Semester 2, 2024. At Mount Alvernia College, we believe that when young women set their minds to something, they can achieve anything their hearts desire. This belief is at the core of our College motto for this year: “Hearts of Joy, Spirit to Strive”—a testament to the power of pursuing a purpose with passion, and our motto served as inspiration for my address to our student body on this special occasion.

Throughout history, remarkable women have exemplified this pursuit, breaking barriers and setting new standards in their fields. From Katherine Johnson’s groundbreaking work in space exploration to Serena Williams’ dominance in tennis, Emma Watson’s advocacy, and Jo Horgan’s entrepreneurial success with Mecca, these women have shown us what is possible when determination meets purpose. Their journeys remind us that success is built on hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to one’s goals.

At Mount Alvernia, we see these same qualities in our students. Our Celebration of Excellence Assembly is an opportunity to proudly recognise those who demonstrate academic excellence and celebrate their efforts.

We were also delighted to welcome back members of the 2024 graduating class who achieved an ATAR of 90 or above. Their return is a testament to the strong academic foundation fostered at our College, and their success serves as an inspiration to our current students. A special thank you to our 2024 School Dux, Madeleine Colclough, for her insightful address, offering wisdom and encouragement as our students embark on a new academic year.

As Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.” We encourage all students to embrace challenges, strive for their personal best, and continue pursuing their aspirations with passion.
