World Maths Day @

Dear Karoo Families,
We are excited to share highlights from World Maths Day at Karoo, which took place this Tuesday, 25th March 2025. This year’s theme, Mathematics, Art and Creativity, offered a fantastic opportunity for students to explore how maths connects with art and the world around us.
The day began with a Maths Number Talk, where each class examined an art image to uncover the maths hidden within. This activity helped reinforce the idea that maths is all around us and plays a role in many aspects of life.
Students then participated in two rotations of maths investigations in mixed-age groups. These hands-on tasks allowed students to explore maths in creative ways while fostering connections with peers and teachers across the school. Activities included finding and creating patterns in nature, using triangles to form new images and designing mandalas with different shapes.
The day concluded with a Maths Showcase, where classrooms were opened to welcome families. It was wonderful to see students share their maths discoveries with their loved ones and equally lovely to see families joining in on the fun! World Maths Day serves as a reminder that maths is not just about numbers. It’s about creativity and viewing the world in new and exciting ways. We encourage families to ‘find the maths’ in your day-to-day lives.
A big thank you to all the families who joined us for this event. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as we did. We’re already brainstorming ideas for next year’s World Maths Day at Karoo!
