Level 2: Connect

Celebrating Term 1

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are so impressed with all the Year 2 students this past week! They have shown incredible enthusiasm for learning, adapted beautifully to any changes, and consistently tried their personal best. We are so proud of their efforts and the kindness they show each day!

Maths

If you’d like to continue learning during the holidays, there are many online resources that help build number fluency, including TopMarks, K5 Learning and Mathletics. We encourage students to keep practising their counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, or 100s. To strengthen their skills, try starting at any number and counting both forwards and backwards.

Reading & Writing

In the final week of term  we consolidated what the students have learnt in literacy this term. The students had an excellent recall of all the amazing books we have read this term and were able to summarise what happened in the story. We also completed a big write where the student used a picture prompt to write an engaging and exciting story.

Core Literacy

If you’d like to continue supporting your child’s phonemic awareness, we encourage you to explore the video below. It offers engaging ways to reinforce their understanding of phonemes through fun and interactive activities.

Inquiry Focus: Knowing Me

This week during Inquiry, Year 2 students have been developing valuable strategies to regulate their emotions and return to the Green Zone—a state of calmness, focus, and readiness to learn. They explored techniques such as walking away and counting to ten, practising belly breathing, engaging in physical exercise, and participating in calming activities like drawing. Through hands-on practice, students reflected on how these strategies influenced their emotions and identified which techniques worked best for them. These essential skills will help students manage their feelings more effectively, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

Have a lovely break and we will see you in 2 weeks!
