Classroom Mastery

About Classroom Mastery

Australia has some of the most disruptive classrooms in the world. Safe, ordered, and positive learning environments are a foundation for learning. ( PISA. 2029)

Teachers must plan how their classroom will run and teach this explicitly to their students. Learning is as successful as the culture, expectations, routines, and rules taught and reinforced with students.

Classroom Mastery has been developed by Knowledge Society and leading classroom management expert Dr Tim McDonald, to provide teachers, leaders and schools, with the professional learning and resources what will enable them to calm and orderly classrooms.

School Values

Faith

Integrity

Hope

We believe that every person can have a strong relationship with God, self and each other. When we act with integrity, we consistently demonstrate responsible behaviour that is truthful, fair and honest. We believe in a hope-filled future and know that challenges can be overcome.

Wisdom

Courage

Respect

We strive to achieve our full potential through a love of learning and respectful relationships. We are courageous in facing new challenges head on, inspiring self and others to greatness. Members of our school community show respect for life, self, others, the wider community and environment through our actions and words.

School Rules

As part of our aim for calm and orderly classrooms, we have needed to update our school rules and look closely at areas that need to become a stronger focus.

Our refreshed rules are:

  • Behave Safely
  • Follow staff instructions
  • Use school-appropriate language
  • Use technology devices appropriately
  • Wear the school uniform correctly.

We need your help to embed these rules!

School uniforms are a constant low-level concern that causes tension between adults and students. Please see below for the correct school uniform. It is also important to note the days that the sports uniform is worn. Sport days are published in your Year level termly newsletter.

Jewellery, apart from plain studs, sleepers, or a watch should NOT be worn, and there is NO MAKE UP.  This includes mascara, foundation, tinted moisturisers and any other derivative of this, nor should there be any coloured nail varnish.

The consequence for breaking this rule will include the removal of the jewellery, which will be placed in a zip lock bag and kept in the office to be returned to the student at the end of the day.

As we unpack each of these rules with the students, we will share the expectations and consequences with you.

The second change will relate to how we enter our classrooms and prepare for learning.   Our entry routine for the beginning of the day is:

  1. You will enter the room quietly and place things that you need in the designated place,
  2.  Then you will move quietly to your desk
  3.  Then you will start quietly reading
  4.  When the second bell rings. The classroom teacher will welcome and greet you, and you will sit quietly with your eyes focused on them.

This routine will allow for a calm and orderly start to the school day, and our children will be ready to learn.

We will keep you up to date with new routines as we introduce them.
