Glen Education Caulfield Primary

Curriculum Goals that Align with National Frameworks

By Junko Mackowiak,Early Childhood Teacher

Our Glen Caulfield Primary Kindergarten program goals align with The Early Learning Framework (EYLF, 2022, v2.0) and Child Safety Standards.

One of our key goals is to "Support children in building secure and trusting relationships in the kindergarten environment." Another important goal we are focused on is to "Create a culturally safe environment where all children's diverse identities and experiences are respected and valued."

We embrace and celebrate the uniqueness of each child, ensuring that they feel respected, understood, and appreciated for who they are. This is reflected in our practice of displaying family photos in the room, providing a sense of connection and belonging for each child.

The children have enjoyed looking at their family photos, talking about their family members, and sharing their experiences. Additionally, they have enjoyed placing their own drawings or paintings in their portfolios, further reinforcing their sense of ownership and pride in their work. By honouring each child’s background and experiences, we ensure they feel confident and valued in our learning environment.

During group time and one-on-one discussions, we focus on building secure relationships with both educators and peers. Fun group games, such as the "Bumblebee" song and "Shoe Shop" game, help children connect with each other.

Another important goal is to "Support children to develop both English and Japanese language skills in fun and playful ways." The children learn English and Japanese through stories, songs, music, dance, and acknowledgment of the country. We are also introducing sign language to help children express their feelings, such as happy, sad, angry, and hungry. This not only enhances communication skills and reduces frustration but also improves cognitive development, social-emotional skills, and fosters a positive learning environment. It increases awareness of disabilities within the community, which helps broaden children's perspectives and promotes inclusivity. By learning to communicate in multiple ways, children build a foundation for lifelong skills in empathy, adaptability, and problem-solving.

Families contribute to children's development by creating a nurturing home environment, encouraging communication and learning, collaborating with educators, promoting positive behaviour, and participating in school events. Your involvement helps build strong foundations for the children’s growth academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our kindergarten’s door is always open to families, and we love your feedback and participation in our programs, such as joining special person’s day, incursions, excursions, cooking, gardening, reading books, sharing your hobbies/occupations, working bees, or simply joining in on playtime.

We look forward to another exciting term and a fulfilling year ahead!
