Glen Education Glover Street

Confident, Curious and Capable Learners
By Glen Glover Educational Team
Over the past few weeks, the team at Glen Education Glover Street Kindergarten has been excited to build and strengthen new and existing relationships with the children and their families.
The most important focus for Term One has been building secure, respectful and reciprocal relationships. Research shows that strong relationships are critical for a child’s brain development. Positive interactions with responsive educators support children to continue to learn to regulate their emotions, develop empathy and build social skills.
Orientation was implemented over a two-week period so that the children could gradually settle into their new learning environment, as well as meet their peers and begin connecting with educators. It was also an opportunity where families could share important information about the hopes and dreams of their children in a relaxed and meaningful way. It was very affirming to hear that the effort and intentionality of this process was well received.
We know that relationships support children to feel safe, reduce anxiety and contribute to a sense of wellbeing. Children learn first and foremost in their homes and communities, so the relationships we build with our families is fundamental in supporting each child’s learning and development. Children have better outcomes when families and educators form strong partnerships built on trust, respect and open communication, so this will be a team goal for Term One.
At Glen Education Glover Street Kindergarten, we strive to make everyday interactions intentional. This is shown by being present and aware in the moment, connecting with each child and letting them know that we see them, are interested in them and want to spend time with them. This supports a sense of trust and security. Our goal is to continue to grow stronger in our relationships through positive and meaningful interactions, enabling children to feel more confident and supported in their environment.
By focusing on relationships and developing a strong foundation, we can support children to be confident, curious and capable learners.
