A Day in Early Primary

Kew Traffic School Excursion
On Tuesday 25 March, our Prep to Grade 2 students visited Kew Traffic School as part of our Integrated Studies unit, How to Be Safe.
The excursion provided students with a fun and engaging way to learn about road safety through play. They explored how to be safe as pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers in vehicles. Students learned strategies to develop confidence and independence as safe road users.
Students participated in practical activities using scooters and bikes (with or without training wheels). They demonstrated great listening skills and enthusiasm as they navigated real-life road scenarios.
We were proud of how responsibly the students represented Christway College and how well they applied their learning throughout the day. It was a valuable experience that reinforced the importance of road safety in everyday life.
Prep Fire Education Incursion – Learning from Our Local Firefighters
As part of our Integrated Studies unit, People Who Help Us, our Prep students were thrilled to participate in two Fire Education incursions with special visitors from Clayton Fire Station.
During the first session, the firefighters taught the students what to do in the event of smoke or fire at home. The Preps learned about safe meeting places, the difference between safe and unsafe fires, and the emergency number to call in case of a fire. The children also enjoyed seeing the firefighters dress in their full protective gear, helping them understand that firefighters are friendly helpers - even when they look a bit different in uniform!
The second visit was equally exciting, as the students had the opportunity to see a real fire truck up close. The highlight of the session was getting a turn to spray water from the fire hose—an experience many will remember for years to come!
