Principal's Report

s for the prize pool we raisedWOW – what a term it has been! We’ve welcomed our brand-new Foundation students, introduced our Student Leaders, conducted Meet and Greets, participated in the 5/6 Dance Program, attended the 1-4 Swimming Program, created newspaper fashion for the TEAMs Sustainable Fashion Show, farewelled some departing School Council Representatives, and welcomed four new members. We also enjoyed the 1/2 Market Fresh event, held an Amazing Maths Race, competed in the 3-6 Athletics and District Athletics, and collaborated through Assemblies, SSG Meetings, and Planning Week. Not to mention the outstanding teaching and learning programs that happen every day at Ballarat North—no wonder we are all ready for the holidays!

Last Wednesday, we celebrated World Maths Day. The Maths team, led by Mrs. Olivia McLean, worked incredibly hard to create an exciting experience—the Amazing Maths Race! Students demonstrated our school values by working together, supporting each other, and putting in their best effort. We were also thrilled to welcome so many families into our assembly and classrooms to share in the fun. A huge thank you to Olivia, the Maths team, our students, and the families who made this event such a success. A special mention goes to Fiona Emery for creating the amazing Mathscots capes!

Kim and I had the privilege of hosting an Information Session last week for prospective 2026 families. We were joined by four of our School Captains—Drew, Mabel, Nkulu, and Zoe—while Ebony could unfortunately not attend. Before leading tours of the school, the captains spoke about various aspects of school life, including Specialist subjects, excursions, and our buddy program. They presented themselves exceptionally well, providing an informative and engaging session about what it means to be part of the Ballarat North community.

On the same day, Ebony represented Ballarat North at the State Schools Victoria, Greater Western Region Swimming Carnival, competing in butterfly, and she secured 1st place! This incredible achievement means she will now advance to the State Championships. We are so proud of Ebony’s commitment and dedication and wish her all the best at the next level.

This week, our 1/2 students proudly welcomed family and friends into their classrooms to share their learning about being a healthy person. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they confidently shared their knowledge.

We also had a fantastic turnout for the 5/6 Dance Performance. Our students represented themselves beautifully, demonstrating excellence by putting in their best effort. The students and staff have thoroughly enjoyed working with Kyle each week, and I’m sure you’ll agree—his enthusiasm was contagious! A big thank you to the parents who attended on Wednesday; your presence means so much to our community. We understand that it’s not always easy to make time, so we truly appreciate your support.

Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets and donated items for our Easter Raffle. We had 25 fantastic prizes. We raised $2,378.50, this money will be investing in the school community by giving our students a playground and oval where they can explore and engage their imagination.

As we wrap up the term, I want to take this opportunity to thank our school community for your encouragement, support, and patience as I have navigated the past six weeks as Acting Principal. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a wonderful school, and I am proud of the way we support each other during times of change.

Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday break—I look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday, 22nd April.

Regards,

Carly Macdonald
