Principal Team's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Year 3 and Year 4 Camp

This week students in Year 3 and Year 4 had the opportunity to go on City Camp. On Day 1, students departed Maramba Primary School and travelled straight to the MCG, where they participated in a guided tour of the MCG and the Sports Museum. They enjoyed their packed lunch at Yarra Park before heading to ACMI to take part in 'The Story of the Moving Image' program. The final stop for the day was the Eureka Skydeck, offering students breathtaking views of Melbourne. After a jam-packed day full of fun and new experiences, students travelled to their accommodation at CYC. They enjoyed afternoon tea, time in their rooms with friends, dinner, and finished the day with engaging team-building activities.

On Day 2, following a delicious breakfast, students boarded the bus and headed to Pentridge Gaol, where they participated in the Vagabond Experience. After enjoying lunch prepared by CYC, students visited their final destination, the Melbourne Museum, where they took part in the Dinosaur Walk Exhibition.

We were extremely impressed by our students, who consistently demonstrated the Maramba values of Respect, Relationships, Responsibility, and Resilience throughout the camp. A big thank you to our staff who organised the camp and supported students throughout the experience.

Parenting Styles and Their Impact

Parenting is one of the most important and rewarding roles we undertake, yet it can also be one of the most challenging. As partners in your child’s learning journey, we value the opportunity to reflect together on approaches that best support children to thrive. Researchers have described four main parenting styles:

  1. Uninvolved – little guidance and little warmth.

  2. Authoritarian – strict rules but not much warmth.

  3. Permissive – lots of warmth but very few boundaries.

  4. Authoritative – a balance of warmth, clear boundaries, and high expectations.

(Which parenting style aligns with your practice?)

Research shows that the authoritative style: high in both warmth and clear expectations has the most positive impact on children. Parents using this approach are supportive and understanding of their child’s needs while also setting clear limits and explaining the reasons behind rules.

Children raised with this balance of care and structure often show:

  • stronger academic achievement,

  • good social skills,

  • independence and confidence, and

  • healthy self-esteem.

Similarly, in schools, a teaching style that is both supportive and sets high expectations helps students to thrive, not only in their learning but also in their personal and social development. At our school, we are committed to nurturing the whole child by balancing wellbeing with achievement so every student feels supported, challenged and able to reach their full potential.

When home and school work together with this shared balance of warmth and high expectations, children experience consistency, security and the confidence to grow. Thank you for the important role you play in partnering with us to create the best possible environment for every child to flourish.

Uniform

Wearing a school uniform helps create a sense of belonging and pride in our school community, while ensuring all students feel included and equal. Beleza School Wear is our uniform supplier. You can purchase uniform items through their website at https://beleza.com.au/online-store or in-store.

Our Friends of Maramba parent volunteers also run the second hand uniform shop at different times during the year. Please keep an eye out for communication via the school newsletter or Compass about times/dates.
