Wellbeing Report

House Welcome Evening
Thank you to our Year 12, Year 7 and new families who attended the House welcome evening last week. It was wonderful to see staff, students and families connecting through our House liturgies and building a strong sense of community to begin the year.
We are privileged to have some incredible staff members leading our Houses in 2026. Some faces you will recognise, others are new but all are equally committed to the care and wellbeing of the students within their Houses.

Rights, Resilience & Respectful Relationships
At St Joseph’s College, we are proud to continue strengthening our commitment to the Respectful Relationships program through a whole-school approach that is deeply grounded in our Catholic identity and the values of the Kildare Ministries tradition.
A whole-school approach invites us to reflect intentionally on our procedures, practices and culture to ensure that respect, dignity, justice and equality underpin all aspects of school life. This includes how we work together as staff, how we support young people in classrooms and co-curricular spaces, and how our school engages with the wider community. As a workplace, a learning environment and a faith community, we are committed to ensuring all members feel respected, safe and valued.
Respectful Relationships education at St Joseph’s College is delivered through explicit learning experiences and thoughtful integration across the curriculum. Students engage in learning through:
- Health and Physical Education
- Religious Education
- Learning Mentor (LM) time
Year level seminars and targeted learning experiences
This work is strongly supported by a substantial body of evidence. Research from respected institutions, including the World Health Organisation and findings from the Royal Commission into Family Violence, highlights that schools play a critical role in promoting respectful relationships, gender equality, personal safety and wellbeing. These findings reinforce the importance of early, consistent and values-based education in shaping positive attitudes, behaviours and relationships.
Our approach is complemented by The Resilience Project, which supports students to develop emotional literacy, empathy, coping strategies and help-seeking behaviours. Together, these programs strengthen students’ capacity to build healthy relationships, manage challenges and care for themselves and others – skills that align closely with our Catholic understanding of the dignity and worth of every person.
Our staff are committed to providing respectful, inclusive and supportive learning environments where students are encouraged to ask questions, reflect deeply and grow in understanding. We value the important role families play in this learning and encourage you to continue conversations at home, discussing how these topics align with your own family values and experiences.
We look forward to working in partnership with you as we continue to implement this important program at a critical stage in your child’s development.
Compass - Updating Student Medical Information
As the school year gets underway and camps and excursions begin, we ask parents and carers to please check that your child’s medical information on Compass is up to date.
Please refer to the instructions provided on Compass for guidance on how to review and update medical details.
Updating Childs Medical Details via the App
Log into your school’s Compass portal via the Compass App, click ‘More’ in the bottom right-hand corner Select ‘Update My Details’.
Uniform
Thank you to students and families for supporting our school uniform policy.
A reminder that students are only permitted to wear the PE uniform on days when a HPE practical class is scheduled. Academic uniform should be worn on all other days.
We also remind families that the school hat is compulsory in Terms 1 and 4. Students are required to wear their hat whenever they are outside. We appreciate your continued support.
