Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear parents, carers and our community of Hazel Glen College,

We are so proud of how well our students have settled into life at our College. Last Friday, we had our first Primary Years Assembly of the year in the Furze Fitness Centre. This was the perfect time for us to come together as a Primary Years community to hear from our students all the wonderful experiences and opportunities they get to be a part of at the College.

Even though we are only in Term One, we understand that families are beginning to consider schools for either Prep or Year 7 in 2027. At Hazel Glen College, we take pride in being a College consisting of Kindergarten, Primary Years and Secondary Years. Our motto, 'One College, Everyone Matters', is reflected in everything that we do.

Many of our students join us in Kindergarten and remain with us for the entirety of their College journey until they graduate at the completion of Year 12 or find alternative pathways leading to career beginnings. This journey has taken a full turn in 2026, with our very first Prep cohort graduating at the end of this year in Year 12. This is an incredible milestone for our College.

We have a seamless transition for our Kindergarten children leading into Prep and for our Year 6 students transitioning to Year 7. If you are an interested family reading our newsletter, tours are available on our website here to book, where you can come in person to see the amazing things we do at Hazel Glen College. Our administration staff will always be available to help with any questions about enrolments, tours, information evenings and any questions you have about our College.

Thank you to Ms Grace Davies and the McGrath House team for coordinating Random Acts of Kindness Day. Our students participated in class activities focusing on kindness and positive connections. We see this daily with how our students interact with each other and staff both inside and outside of the classrooms. Our staff also participated with a pay-it-forward initiative where they shared notes, coffee, kind words or a lending hand to spread a little extra positivity and connection throughout their day. I think you would all agree that we are fortunate to have amazing staff who support a positive College culture at Hazel Glen College.

College photos took place place last week. If your child requires a retake photo or missed out on the day, another date will be provided for catch-up photos. A thank you to families for ensuring that students followed the uniform guidelines for this event. Please ensure that your child continues to have the correct uniform items whilst at the College and we appreciate your support with College expectations. Our College uniform guide is decided by our School Council after rigorous review processes. We have ensured that all feedback has been heard and decisions for the uniform guide have been community-informed. We believe that the College expectations are achievable and meet the needs of our students and College community. We thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

On Wednesday, Ms Grace Davies and Ms Adelle Faber presented on behalf of Leaders in the Making at the Whittlesea Principal Network Meeting. We heard about their leadership journey and they both presented with professionalism and shared insights and reflections from the course they completed in 2025. Both Grace and Adelle represented Hazel Glen College with pride and as exemplary role models for leadership in schools. Our Primary Years are fortunate to have such dedicated leaders who make a difference and invest in our community.
