Principal's Message
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we settled into Week 4, our school has been alive with community, faith, and the joyful energy that makes OLSS such a special place.
This Week’s Gospel – Matthew 4:1–11
As we enter the season of Lent, this Sunday’s Gospel reminds us of Jesus’ time in the desert, where He faced temptation from the devil. Even in moments of hunger, loneliness, and challenge, Jesus stayed true to God’s word and showed us the strength that comes from trusting in God.
For our students, this story is a gentle invitation to think about the choices they make each day. Just as Jesus chose what was good and true, we are encouraged to pause, reflect, and choose kindness, courage, and faith- especially when it’s difficult.
May this Gospel inspire our school community to walk through Lent with open hearts and a renewed commitment to living as Jesus taught.
The Beginning of Lent
This week we entered the season of Lent, a significant time in our Church year. Lent invites us to pause, reflect, and prepare our hearts as we journey towards Easter. It is a season of simplicity, prayer, and acts of kindness, an opportunity for each of us to grow closer to God and to one another.
Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Day
We began our Lenten journey with the wonderful tradition of Shrove Tuesday. Our community was treated to delicious pancakes, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mrs Lindsay‑Thus for her organisation, coordination, and leadership. Her efforts, along with our amazing volunteers, ensured that every student enjoyed a warm, joy‑filled start to the week. We are deeply grateful for the generosity and service shown by all involved.

Ash Wednesday Mass
On Wednesday, our school gathered reverently to celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass. It was a privilege to be joined by past OLSS students who now attend St Patrick’s College, Sutherland. Their presence was a beautiful reminder of the ongoing connection and pride our alumni hold for their primary school. The Mass set a reflective and meaningful tone for the Lenten season ahead.
A Special Welcome to Kindergarten
This morning’s whole school assembly was made even more special by the presence of our Kindergarten students. Their confidence, enthusiasm, and sense of belonging have grown so quickly, it truly feels as though they have been part of our OLSS family forever. We are incredibly proud of the way they have settled into school life with such joy and resilience.
As we continue through the term, may we carry the spirit of Lent with us choosing kindness, showing gratitude, and supporting one another as a community grounded in faith. Wishing all families a peaceful and reflective week ahead.
God Bless,
Mr Marcel Arendse
