Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 2 and I am glad to see our students have started well with a focus on continuing their improvement from Term 1. It is important that our students continue to drive themselves to improve and set high expectations for themselves.

Term 2 is very important for all of our students as we continue to assess learning through Learning Tasks, SACs and Exams. Our students in Years 11 & 12 will be continuing to work through achieving successful completion of Unit 1 or Unit 3 including a range of coursework and for Year 12 students also having their marked SACs which will contribute to their study scores.

Now is the time for students to ensure they have strong study and homework habits. Multiple subjects will have assessments overlapping their timelines and it is imperative that students are organised, prepared and ready for all of their assessments. Some questions to ask your child to ensure they are having strong study habits:

Do you have a regular routine to complete homework?

Do you have a structured time to revise your classwork?

What assessments, SACs or exams do you have coming up? What does your calendar look like in the next week / next few weeks/remainder of the term?

The school has a range of homework and subject-support clubs running during break times and after school that your child can access and we encourage you to ask your child whether they are accessing those supports. They can always ask their teacher for the support or when these support and homework clubs are running.

Video from Minister for Education

The Minister for Education, Hon. Ben Carroll MP, has recorded a video for all parents and carers around the importance of the second school term for all students in their learning. We encourage our community to listen to the video linked below.

Athletics

The school held our Athletics Day on Friday 26th April and it was a day of vibrant colour! I was very impressed by some of the colour and costumes created by the students. I was very pleased with the engagement of the students who attended and I hope that we can continue to build up the importance of the day in building a culture of connection to our school.

Western United

As a school, we are working to establish a partnership with Western United to provide a range of opportunities for our students. We were very lucky to have a range of players and staff from the club visit us on Wednesday 1st May. They ran some activities and competitions for some of our Health & PE classes. It was great to see our students engaged with the players and this is just the first of several opportunities we hope to provide for our students and community.

Building Handover

We have had our new extension to the Chirnside Building completed in the first weeks of this term and we officially handed over the keys this week to the school. We are very excited to prepare this space for use by our school community in Term 3. We are eagerly awaiting the delivery of furniture in the coming weeks and then some fine tuning of classrooms to ensure everything is ready for our students. This will be a wonderful addition to our school landscape that we are excited to roll out in Term 3.
