Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

FOUNDATION INFORMATION NIGHT - TUESDAY 23RD APRIL 2024 - 6PM

We would love to see as many prospective parents as possible to our Foundation Information Night on Tuesday 23 April 2024. The night will commence at 6pm in the B.E.R building.

If you already have children at Warrnambool Primary School or if you know someone who has a child about to commence Foundation in 2025 please come along and encourage them to also.

We will share information about the first year of school, a day in the life of a Foundation child at Warrnambool Primary School and outline some of the great programs we have at our school.

Our student leaders will extend a warm welcome to prospective parents and they will also speak about their experiences as students at our great school.

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

There are two Public Holidays coming up, being Anzac Day on Thursday 25th April 2024 and Warrnambool Race Day on Thursday 2nd May 2024.

There is no school and ‘Their Care’ will not be operating on those days.

ANZAC CEREMONIES

Our school will be holding an ANZAC ceremony on Wednesday 24th April at 2.30pm in the School Gym. It is being co-ordinated and run by our JSC. Parents are welcome.

The J.S.C school leaders will meet with me in Liebig St on ANZAC Day- 10:30am- to represent our school at the City march and wreath laying ceremony.

DEBATING

Our Year 5/6 debating teams has been practising over the past few weeks in readiness for their debating program which was held today.

I had the pleasure of attending the event with Mrs Michelle Rea and the 5/6 students.

It was an outstanding effort by all participants and I would like to thank the teachers for their guidance and tuition.

It is so good to see our students participating in a range of activities across the school and across the area.

Warrnambool Primary School has a very proud tradition at the Interschool Debating including first place in 9 out of the past 12 years.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

On Wednesday 17th April select students participated in District Athletics at Brauerander Park. All students did an amazing effort in competing and there were many ribbons won amongst the students. Well done to all the students who participated and thank you to Mr Lewis and Mrs Allen who attended on the day.

LIONS EYE HEALTH PROGRAM - FOUNDATION, YEAR 3 AND YEAR 5

The Lions Eye Health Program is offering Free Vision Screening for students in Foundation, Year 3 and Year 5. Over 80% of what children learn is processed through their eyes. Untreated eye conditions can affect a child’s development.

The individual screening takes just a few minutes to perform with no physical contact made with the child and no eye drops are administered. Individual reports will sent to parent/guardians. If a vision problem is detected, this will be written on the child’s result sheet and you will be encouraged to seek a further eye assessment with an eye health professional. Permission forms need to be completed and returned to the office by Wednesday 15th May.

Please note that if a child is ready under the care of an optometrist they should not participate in the screening.

PUPIL FREE DAY - FRIDAY 17TH MAY 2024

A reminder that School Council approved Friday 17th May 2024 as a dedicated Pupil Free Day for Wellbeing Professional Learning.

Children are not required at school on Friday 17th May 2024.

Their Care will be offering their program for those families who require the service.

SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY NEXT WEEK

We are looking forward to the School Cross Country next week.

Foundation to Year 2 students will participate on Tuesday 23rd April 2024 between 9.15am and 11am at school.

Years 3-6 students will participate on Friday 26th April 2024 from 9.30am at Albert Park.

Have a great weekend.
