Hello Parents and Friends,
I hope your working week was a good one as we welcomed May to make an appearance in the 2024 calendar.
Education Week and Open Day/Night – Spotlight on STEM
Education Week is upon us! Starting Monday, all schools will celebrate education in Victoria from Monday 13th May to Friday 17th May.
The theme this year will be 'Spotlight on STEM', a chance for schools to celebrate and share how they bring Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to life in the classroom. We will once again, have a very special Open Night where we will celebrate STEM learning within our school. This will include STEM challenges and activities in every classroom. Students will collect an Open Night passport (one per family) and collect stamps as they visit all the different class and specialist rooms across the school. A lucky family will be able to win a $60 voucher.
Our Open Morning allows parents, carers and the community to come into the classrooms and see our students at work.
We are hoping to see as many people as possible for:
New Entry / Exit Point from Mandella Street
In order to keep a safer distance between staff vehicles and pedestrians, the school has decided to change the entry and exit point for students and parents entering the school on foot from Mandella Street. From next week, we ask all pedestrians to enter the school via the concrete path that begins at the bottom of Mandella St Reserve (this is only about ten metres from the current school entry) and leads to the school gate near the top of the prep rooms. This will allow for two distinct areas, one for pedestrians and the other for staff vehicles.
Next week will be a ‘phasing in week’. Signs and staff will be around to inform students where to go when entering and exiting the school in order to get everybody accustomed to the new process. Please explain to your child if they enter / exit from Mandella Street what they will need to do. We will also be informing students across the school.
A Taste of School (Preschool Program)
One of our first of two ‘Taste of School’ sessions for children commencing Prep in 2025 took place on Tuesday and it was a great success. Our young visitors experienced either a Visual Arts session with Ms. Sumner or a Sport class with Mr. Van Der Pol. The children had a wonderful time and were so excited to be attending ‘big’ school.
At TPPS, we have one of the most comprehensive Prep transition programs in Victoria. 'Taste of School' will continue for its second session next Tuesday 14th May. As well as this, our Young Einstein’s STEM and Sustainability sessions will take place in Term 3 before our formal Transition program commences in Term 4.
Please contact the school office if you would like to attend our final 'Taste of School' session next week or for more information on upcoming events.

Grade 1 Parent Information Session about Reading
At TPPS, we constantly work to being at the forefront of research based teaching methods. With this in mind, we have recently begun extensive work in our junior grades with a 'Systematic Synthetic Phonics Approach' to literacy learning and how we teach students to read. Learning for students is always better when parents and teachers work together, so we are encouraging all Grade 1 parents to come to our 'Grade 1 Parent Information Night - Reading' on Wednesday 22nd May 5.30-6.30pm in the Library to see what learning to read looks like for your child and how you can support them at home.
Please see the Grade 1 News Feed to register.
Lost Property
The Lost Property is absolutely overflowing with jumpers at the moment. Please ensure all school clothing is named so that the owners of these items can easily be identified. Please help us and encourage your child to take responsibility for their clothing each day!
Parking Around TPPS
Finally, we continue to receive feedback from justifiably frustrated neighbours who are having issues with parents parking across their driveways therefore, blocking their access. Can parents please be considerate of our neighbours and use our school value of Respect when deciding where to park before and after school. It is important to us as a school that we show our neighbours as much consideration as possible. Remember, the Greek Orthodox Church on the corner of Church Road and Porter Street is available for parking and is less congested. The crossing is at the front of the school which allows safe crossing of the road if this is your meeting spot.
