Celebrating the Success of Isabella Piper

We are delighted to shine a spotlight on the exceptional achievements of Isabella Piper, a shining example of talent and dedication at Boorowa Central School.

Isabella's sporting prowess was on full display during the recent Western Area Trials held in Term 1, where she excelled in both Rugby 7's and U18 Girls Rugby League. Her outstanding performance earned her well-deserved spots in both the Western Rugby 7's team and the U18 Rugby League team, showcasing her remarkable skill and commitment to these games.

Isabella's journey doesn't stop there. Following her success on the rugby field, she represented Western against the North Western Rugby League side at Coonabarabran, securing her place in the Greater Western side as a formidable back row player. Looking ahead, Isabella is set to embark on an exciting series of games in Wollongong from May 27th to 29th. Her goal? To clinch a spot on the NSW CHS U18 Rugby League team, a feat that would mark another milestone in her burgeoning sports career.

Looking ahead, Isabella is set to embark on another exciting challenge. Next week, she will be participating in the NSW CHS Swimming Championships being held in Sydney. Remarkably, Isabella will be swimming in not one, but three relay teams, a testament to her versatility and prowess on the sporting field.

We commend her hard work, determination, and sportsmanship, and extend our heartfelt wishes for success in her upcoming swimming championships and her rugby and rugby league endeavours.

Stage 5 STEM Bridge-Building Challenge

Our Stage 5 STEM elective students recently took on a tough engineering challenge: designing and building a prototype Truss Bridge. Using their engineering skills and the design process, they worked hard to create bridges that could hold up under pressure. And their efforts paid off – some of their bridges impressively held up to 24kg of weight before giving in.

It's great to see our students apply what they've learned in STEM to real-world challenges. Their determination and teamwork were truly excellent. They now move onto making bottle rockets!

South Coast Beef Spectacular

The Boorowa Show Team attended the South Coast Beef Spectacular with many students from 20 schools across the state, these young individuals went to workshops about animal handling, parading, carcass assessment, and young judge workshops, learning lots of new skills and information.

The event provided a platform for students to hone their talents and compete at a high level, with opportunities to learn from industry experts and fellow competitors. Among the standout performers were our steers Cloudy, Wynstan, and Astro, who not only represented our school with pride but also garnered phenomenal results, adding to the team's achievements.

Astro won the Lightweight Class in the Manildra Section before going on to be awarded the Champion Manildra Steer. Astro competed in the Open section where he also won the Lightweight class.

Wynstan competed in the Manildra and Open sections Medium weight classes securing a very respectable third in both sections whilst competing as the lightest animal in his class.

Cloudy was the star of the day competing in the Heavyweight Open Section where he won first in his class, then went on to be awarded the Open Champion Steer title before winning the overall Grand Champion Steer up against Astro.

The parading competition allowed students to exhibit their steers to their best advantage, highlighting their conformation, muscle definition, and overall presentation. Through meticulous grooming and handling, students transformed their steers into prime examples of the beef breed standard, impressing judges and spectators alike with their attention to detail.

The young judge workshops offered participants the opportunity to step into the shoes of a cattle judge, evaluating animals based on industry standards and providing feedback on their observations. This exercise not only honed their critical thinking skills but also deepened their understanding of the qualities that make a superior beef animal.

To be awarded both major champion awards from the show is an absolutely outstanding result. The success of Cloudy, Wynstan, Astro, and their handlers at the South Coast Beef Spectacular is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of the students involved in the cattle show team. Their achievements not only reflect their commitment to excellence but also highlight the vital role that youth play in the future of the beef industry.
