Leadership Report

Written by Amanda Palombi

Dear Saltwater Community,

Welcome to week four at Saltwater College. As we near the transition from autumn to winter, we'd like to remind families that students are allowed to wear coats/jackets during outdoor activities. Please make sure these are labelled clearly with your child/ren's name/s.

With the shift in weather also comes the onset of the cold and flu season. If your child is feeling unwell, please inform the school via our XUNO platform to mark the absence as 'explained'. While we encourage regular attendance, we acknowledge that when a child is sick, the best course of action is for them to stay home to recover.

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences were a highlight last week as families joined us on campus. Teachers were delighted by the confident presentations students gave about their learning. We encourage families to continue logging into Schoolbox regularly throughout the term to view additional entries your children add to their portfolio. You can leave comments and recognise the impressive work our students are creating.

We thank our families for accommodating our early finish to ensure conferences were able to run, and for attending the conferences to celebrate their children’s learning.

Tours for Prospective 2025 Prep Students

Our prospective Prep tours are well underway and operate on Friday mornings during the month of May. These tours offer a window into the vibrant world of our P-9 College education, allowing prospective students and their families to explore our school environment, meet teachers, and get a feel for what lies ahead. These tours assist families to familiarise themselves with the physical layout of the school and provide valuable insights into the school's culture, ethos, and teaching philosophy.

Please inform neighbours and friends who reside in the school zone, and have school age children, to book a tour. For a booking, our contact details are as follows:

Property Damage and Injury at School

The following information is from Department of Education directives that we need to ensure our community is aware of.

We kindly remind families that students and parents/carers are responsible for a student’s personal items and property, including if it is lost, stolen or damaged at school. Claims for the reimbursement of the cost of a personal item/property brought to school will not be paid by the school and are not covered by school insurance.

Parents/carers are also responsible for all medical expenses, including ambulance costs if they are incurred by a student at school. We encourage parents/carers to have up-to-date ambulance cover for their child/ren, where possible.

We thank you all for your support in regard to these Department of Education directives.

Dogs In Schools - Kind Reminder

Recently, we experienced an issue with two dogs displaying aggression close to our school gates.Families are kindly reminded that dogs are prohibited within the school premises unless prior approval has been granted by the principal. Exceptions are made for dogs providing assistance to individuals with disabilities, including Therapy Dogs and Wellbeing Dogs.

Tethering dogs to the school boundary fence is also prohibited. Owners must accompany their dogs and remain outside the school boundaries throughout their stay. Owners bear full responsibility for their dog's conduct and are expected to promptly clean up any waste left by their pet.

Your cooperation in maintaining a safe environment for all students and families at the school is greatly appreciated.

Mother's Day Message

As we approach Mother's Day this Sunday, we take a moment to celebrate the remarkable women/mother figures in our lives who nurture, support, and guide us with unwavering love. To all the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and mother figures within our school community, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the countless sacrifices you make and the boundless affection you give. May this Mother's Day be filled with joy, appreciation, and cherished moments shared with loved ones. Wishing you all a Happy Mother's Day!

Access to School Grounds After Hours

Access to our school grounds and buildings is restricted outside of regular school hours for all members of our community, including students. This move is essential to preventing vandalism, theft, property damage/misuse and safety concerns for the public.

By limiting access to school grounds, we are aiming to prevent unauthorised individuals from entering the premises, thus reducing the likelihood of trespassing and related incidents. Safety is a top priority and this essential measure will help to safeguard our school property from potential threats, reducing unsafe incidents.

Out of School Hours Care and clubs who use our school after hours, are an exception to this.
