Year Six
Dear Year Six Families,
We are well into Term Two and the Year Six students have been hard at work
Unit of Inquiry
In our current Unit of Inquiry, students have delved deep into the complex layers of colonisation, exploring its profound impact on Indigenous communities. Through an insightful examination of historical events, particularly the Gold Rush era, students have embarked on a journey to understand how migration patterns were shaped and how they continue to influence the fabric of modern Australia. By critically analysing the ramifications of these pivotal moments in history, our students are gaining a richer understanding of the interconnectedness between past and present, and the enduring legacy it leaves on our society today.
Maths
In our recent mathematics sessions, students have been immersing themselves in the intricate world of time. From mastering the art of reading timetables to grappling with the concept of elapsed time, our classrooms have transformed into hubs of real-world application. Through hands-on activities and interactive discussions, students have not only honed their mathematical skills but have also discovered the practical relevance of timekeeping in their everyday lives. Furthermore, our focus groups have provided invaluable support, offering tailored guidance to address any misconceptions and ensure every student progresses confidently along their mathematical journey.
Literacy
In our literacy sessions, students have been embarking on an enriching exploration of historical narratives, delving into the fascinating tapestry of human experiences through the lens of both first and third-person perspectives. By immersing themselves in a diverse array of historical events, students have not only sharpened their reading comprehension skills but have also developed a nuanced understanding of different viewpoints and storytelling techniques. Through thought-provoking discussions and engaging activities, our students are honing their ability to critically analyse texts while gaining invaluable insights into the complexities of history. These literary adventures serve as essential foundations for their ongoing inquiry, empowering them to navigate the past with empathy, insight, and curiosity.
Summer Sports
During our interschool summer sports season, our students enthusiastically embraced a diverse range of athletic challenges, from the precision of cricket to the agility of tennis and the camaraderie of rounders. With spirited determination and a collaborative spirit, our teams showcased remarkable teamwork and dedication on the field and court. Whether diving for catches in softball, spiking volleyballs over the net, or sinking baskets in basketball, our students exhibited not only their athletic prowess but also their ability to support and uplift one another as cohesive teams.
