Year Three

Dear Year Three Families,

Reading

The Year Three students have been learning about retelling a text and summarising. They have learnt two strategies called the 5 Finger Retell (characters, setting, beginning, middle and end) and Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then. These strategies have guided their thinking when completing a retell or a summary of a text. The students enjoyed reading Thelma the Unicorn and completing a retell and a summary of this text.

Writing

In Writing,  the Year Threes are focussing on writing Narratives. Students have been looking at different words we can use within our writing to make it more interesting and using a checklist to edit and revise their writing. The students have enjoyed the opportunity to write narratives based on a picture prompt and using their imaginations.

Maths

Our focus in Mathematics has been place value. Students have been looking at how to name, make and record numbers with various amounts of digits.  The students have used materials such as MAB blocks, unifix blocks, expander strips and number lines. Students have created numbers using dice, a deck of cards and number cards. The students have shown their knowledge of place value through answering real-life questions using a variety of strategies and materials. Students will soon be moving on to our unit of work on time.

Inquiry

The Year Three students have been working on their Unit of Inquiry Two artworks. They have completed research on different cultures and how these are represented through colours, shapes and patterns in art. The students chose two cultures to compare and have used ideas from all their research and activities to begin creating their artworks for our Mini Exhibition, which will be held on Tuesday 14th of May at 1:40pm.  The students and teachers are looking forward to having their families coming into their classrooms to view their amazing art pieces.

School photos will be happening on Monday, 13th May 2024.

Students are expected to be wearing full academic uniform to ensure consistency in the photos.

Students have been provided school photo ordering flyers. You will notice the flyer is personalised to your child and is equipped with his/her individual ordering code.
