Welcome to Term 2
Welcome to our 'new look' Warrandyte High School Newsletter - and a warm welcome to Term 2. This newsletter will be a great reflection of highlights from Term 1 and an introduction to many of the exciting things happening around and about the school this term.
As the Principal, I was extremely proud of all of our achievements throughout Term 1 this year, notably the ways in which all of our students and staff settled back into school after the summer break. It certainly was a busy term with much achieved including the introduction of our Wellbeing Framework, the co-construction of our 'School-Wide High Expectations Framework' and students involving themselves in a range of activities both in and outside of the classroom. The term ended with our 2024 Discovery Night - and I would like to sincerely thank all of our wonderful students who came along to assist on the night. There was a fantastic 'vibe' around the school and we were overwhelmed with the number of families who came through our doors to find out more about our great school. A special thank you to the amazing WHS parents who also assisted on the night, organising and cooking the BBQ. It was a fantastic way to end a busy term. Throughout this edition you will be able to read about all of the highlights in the second half of the term.
Building our Culture of High Expectations
Establishing ourselves as a school that has the highest of expectations of our students - both inside and outside of the classroom - is a core focus of our continued efforts at WHS to ensure every student who comes through our doors is guaranteed a safe and orderly learning environment that promotes and motivates all students to learn.
Our students are embracing their understanding of our co-constructed high expectations extremely well including;
- Wearing their full school uniform (either traditional or PE) to school each and every day
- Bringing all of their equipment to each class each lesson (including a fully charged laptop)
- Being on time to school and to each class
- Speaking and behaving in a respectful manner to each other and all members of our community
- Always endeavouring to do their best
- Taking accountability for a safe and supportive learning environment
On the next page, you can see for yourself the wonderful work our students and staff have developed for our 'School-Wide High Expectations Framework'. These posters are now in every classroom across the school and act as daily reminders of the high expectations we have at WHS for all members of our community.
Underpinning this important work is the notion that high expectations will ultimately lead to improved academic outcomes for all students - inclusive of their specific learning needs and potential chosen pathways.
We look forward to including our parent/caregiver community in this work at our upcoming Parent Forum in May. More details about this will be coming to you in the next few weeks.
