A MEMORABLE YEAR 8 CAMP AT PHILLIP ISLAND

BY CALEB LOBBE (YEAR 8 CO-ORDINATOR)

On Monday April 29th, our year 8 cohort travelled on a rainy morning to Phillip Island, for what would turn out to be an epic camp. Little did we know that the sun would break through half way through the drive and we would arrive to beautiful sunshine and optimal hiking conditions!

The students embraced this new campsite, which was a lovely and intimate bush campground area at the back of the Phillip Island Adventure Resort. The students did a fantastic job right throughout the camp at showing enthusiasm for all of the activities. Our hike from Kilcunda to San Remo was meant to be 7.5km and we were really proud of both hiking groups when they were challenged as we extended the hike to be 12km because they were doing so well! The students showed great perseverance as fatigue kicked in towards the end of the hike.

Highlights for the rest of the camp included bush cooking and marshmallow toasting on the fire, raft making, completing the team rescue course, koala spotting at the Koala sanctuary and more. This camp was a great time of growth within the community of the year 8 cohort and it was lots of fun! A big thank you to all of the staff who were involved in the camp.

YEAR 5/6 CSEN BASKETBALL - GRAND FINAL VICTORY

BY SIMON BROECKER (PRIMARY SPORTS CO-ORDINATOR)

On Wednesday 1st May, our Year 5/6 basketball team attended the annual CSEN Basketball tournament. Bundled together in our mini bus, we headed to Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre (MSAC). Together with Flinders Christian Community College and Covenant Christian School, it was looking to be an action packed day.

The girls team fought hard in their games, playing against some tough opposition. Despite some hard games, they displayed amazing team spirit and got around each other after each game. It was inspiring to see!

The boys team put up a good fight in their first game against the reigning champions, Flinders, only losing by a single point. With some good team communication, they held their heads high to take a win against Covenant in their 2nd game and qualify for the Grand Final.

This left the boys with one final task. The Grand Final! The first half was a great battle, with scores being neck and neck at half-time. After a group huddle and BHCS chant, they went out ready to play. It was an amazing 2nd half, with our boys team spurring each other on to pull together a well earned victory.

Big thanks to the teachers who made this day possible as well as all the parents who came to cheer the team on.
