Learning Space News

Year 1/2

It has been a busy and exciting start to the year in the 1/2 Learning Space. Students have been developing their ability to work in a team, how to be a good friend and a good learner. They have also been getting to know their teachers and each other!

Literacy

This term students will be learning how to segment and blend unknown words. They will also be to predict what is going to happen in a story.

In Writing, they will be exploring the recount text type - retelling events that have happened. Recently, students made fairy bread then wrote about this experience.

Here are some students' thoughts about making fairy bread:

“It was yummy!”  - Bella Year 1

"It was so much fun" - Sekinah, Year

Maths

Students will be developing their understanding of place value and applying this knowledge to create a range of number patterns. They will also be learning how to use a calendar and identify the different seasons in the year.

Parents can help their child at home by:

  • Talking about the days and months
  • Having conversations about seasonal changes e.g. wearing a hat in summer and or pointing out the different coloured leaves in Autumn.

The 1 /2 Teachers are looking forward to getting to know the students and their families. Please feel free to come and say hello!
