Grade 6 Term 1

This term we have had a lot of fun. Please see some photo's and reflections below of student work and activities from this term.

Reading: Comparing and Contrasting

This term we look at comparing texts written by different authors. We read the original book 'Storm Boy' written by Colin Thiele and then watched the two movies that followed, and compared the similarities and differences of all three texts. We then discussed authors purpose and reasons why different/similar storylines or differences/similarities in the three might have occurred.

Lightning Premiership

Students had a chance to compete against three other school in our interschool sports day. They played Volleyball, Cricket, Tennis and T-Ball. All students had a wonderful day with quite a few teams making it to the next round.

At lightning prem we played t-ball, and many other sports. There was a boys' team and a girls' team, both teams did exceptionally well.

The girls team played very well but sadly lost their final, but our boys team went undefeated and won the final and ended up making divisions. We had a lot of fun and we are very proud of both our teams.

First of all, we would like to thank all of the teachers and volunteers and especially Mr Lord for all the organising he did to make lighting prem possible.

Everyone was very supportive and showed good sportsmanship.

Everyone had a positive attitude towards their matches and were also humble when they won.

Both boys and girls did quite well and I‘m pleased to announce that boys T-ball, girls volleyball, girls cricket and boys tennis got through to the next stage. Congratulations grade 6 on your efforts, you should all be very proud of yourselves.

Inquiry

This term, we have been focusing on leadership, students have been allocated their leadership role for the year and have been working in teams on different jobs and projects. We have also completed a small project on a chosen leader. Students identified the leadership qualities of their chosen leader, as well as made a timeline of significant events in their lives and identified the influences their leader has had on others.

MCG Excursion

To finish our unit on leadership, we visited the MCG Sports Museum where we learned about many different leaders in sports such as Shane Warne, Taylor Harris and many more.

Students were able to see how they stood up to different sports heroes in the game on section and also had a tour of the MCG.
