Our wonderful students have embraced their learning over the last four weeks and have been upholding our school values of respect, responsibility, kindness, friendship and honesty to a high level. So far:

  • All Year 1-6 classes have undertaken the process of electing a Junior School Council, Wellbeing leaders, Class Captains and Green team members
  • Some students have undertaken trials to compete at the district interschool swimming carnival,
  • Our new School Captains have run many successful whole school assemblies along with conducting school tours for prospective parents,
  • The Yr 6s have been doing an amazing job supporting our new Foundation students in the yard and in the classroom.
  • Staff have undertaken their annual CPR and anaphylaxis training,
  • The staff have connected with parents at our yearly ‘Meet and Greet’ ‘
  • Our school has been on display at our first school tour of the year
  • Subcommittees of our school council have meet to continue the governance work of our school

Its only week 4!

Personal Property at School

Toorak Primary School understands that students may sometimes like to bring items of personal property to school. DET does not have insurance for personal property of staff, students and visitors. TPS  does not take responsibility for items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during school activities. Damage to personal property brought to school is the responsibility of the owner of that property. We encourage students not to bring items of value to school, or alternatively obtain appropriate insurance for such items.

Keeping our students safe on the way to school

TPS are very supportive of students developing their independence in and out of the school grounds. Please take the opportunity to talk to your child/children about safety on the roads and support your child to leave school at 3:30pm and walk home. It is strongly recommended that students walk home at 3:30pm when many other families are around. Please speak to your child or travel with them on the weekend, or for several mornings, so that safe riding, scooting etc can be modelled. Thank-you in anticipation of your support with this.

How have you started the year?

At TPS consistent student attendance and arriving to school at 8:45 am for a 8:55am start has always been important. This will continue to be a strong priority for our school again this year. I have already been contacted by regional staff asking for a please explain for students who have already had more than 4 days absence for this term. The list of students was not too long, with the main reason for the absences being extended family holidays. It’s important to set up good life long habits about arriving at school on time so please reach out to us if support is needed. Sara Harris (Student Wellbeing and Welfare) is more than happy to talk through strategies and supports.

School Picnic

The annual school picnic will be held tonight and we have Angela Mulhall (Emily 5C), Alicia Brown (Henry 6C) and David Clark (Felix 2A and Rupert 0B) who have organised the event. It’s only with willing and support from parents, who can give their time and effort to the school, that we are able to run fantastic community events such as this.

The picnic is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends and expand friendships. Thank-you to Ms Exintaris and other staff who assisted to make this evening a success.

This year we are connecting with our families another way, by offering a short 10 minute information session for each year level. Please see the following times for these

How can you support our Community?

Getting involved in schools is extremely rewarding and beneficial for your child and others. Please consider ways in which you could assist in building our sense of community through school involvement. It will not be possible to continue with our:

  • 2nd Hand Uniform shop, our famous school disco, our thoroughly enjoyable trivia night, student lunch orders, Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day events and Class Representatives

without a large group of parents to volunteer their time. If you are interested, we are also calling on volunteers to join our Events, Fundraising and Marketing Committee.

One of the best things to do, to get involved for our students, and to meet other wonderful parents, is to volunteer with a friend. Remember many hands make light work. Please contact the office, or David Clark (Felix 2A and Rupert 0B), if you are interested.

Working Together - Positive behaviour by all

Our school values are strongly embedded within our school culture, and we continue to build on these, to ensure we have a positive environment for learning. With the start of the school year it’s a good opportunity to inform you of the Department of Education’s policy that describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all community members – students, staff, visitors and parents.

Good relationships are based on:

  • Open and honest communication
  • Trust and respect
  • Working together
  • Fair and reasonable expectations by all

Kind regards,

Sharon Wildermuth
