Student Leaders

Student Leadership at SMDP

Leadership is a quality that all students at St Martin’s are encouraged and supported to develop but in Year Six, students have the opportunity to fulfil official positions of leadership.

Towards the end of each year,  Year 5 students participate in a process of application and preparation to undertake leadership positions. They determine their purpose, present their plans and ideas and are elected by peers and staff.

Student leaders are encouraged to think about ways that they can make our school and their local and global communities better as leadership roles challenge individuals to develop a sense of vision and purpose.  They take on responsibilities and use decision making skills in order to carry a project through to a successful conclusion.

They develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills including communication, negotiation, teamwork and reflection. Students are given opportunities to develop the skills of active, reflective listeners who respond effectively as they work with others to determine and achieve collective goals.

In 2024, twelve students make up the SMDP student leadership group.
