Waste Streams & the End of Year Clean Out

In an attempt to help reduce landfill, the FPS staff have been placing the items they no longer want/need into collection boxes for different waste streams.

Thanks to Amelia Trompf – our new part-time Environmental Sustainability Officer – for organising the process so effectively!

Here's what was collected for recycling and reuse:

  • Unwanted stationery (new and used).
  • Lost property (clothes, lunch boxes, containers and drink bottles, miscellaneous).
  • Books (unwanted/out of date resource books, dated or damaged library books, and books okay to be donated).
  • Christmas gift wrapping and ribbons from teacher gifts.
  • Classroom games with missing pieces (a local resident collects these and creates sets to be given back to the community).
  • Laminating for recycling. Damaged/dated laminated items that can't be reused.
  • Laminating for reuse. Laminated classroom resources, games, displays, etc. (these will be offered to other teachers.)
  • Unwanted  tubs, book boxes, containers (any kind of classroom organiser storage). All staff are able to browse and take what they need, giving the items a new life.
  • A miscellaneous/unsure box: broken umbrellas, random pieces of fabric, and broken bits & pieces that can often be found in cupboards.

We are really keen to minimise our landfill footprint!
